Equivalent to one rubbish truck each 60 seconds, only 1% of marine plastic is currently visible on the surface while 94% has already sunk to the seafloor.
Marine plastics will have outweighed the total mass of fish in the world’s oceans by 2050, and the production of plastic pollution constitutes a planetary emergency.
50-75 trillion plastics & microplastics can be found in the ocean
In the last ten years, humans have produced more plastic products than in the previous century. With more plastic entering the ocean every year than is being retrieved, the problem is worsening.

There have been countless talks, summits, meetings, forums, speeches, protests, petitions, and many other efforts to raise awareness about issues like plastic pollution, CO2 emissions, species loss, and other global challenges. despite all the noise, the outcome has been consistently the same— very little!
In 2022 alone, the UK spent an astounding £22 million on meetings and gatherings to discuss plastic pollution without collecting a single bottle. The COP26 summit alone cost £197 million, with little to no action taken since.
That’s why we’re here—to focus on real solutions, tangible actions and outcomes that can make a difference for our planet and everyone living on it.

Addressing The Problem
To date almost 2 billion plastic bottles, tonnes of discarded fishing nets and various other items of plastic and litter have been collected by Think Ocean's volunteers, partners and supporters in seven different locations around the world including the UK, Bali, Nigeria, Bangladesh, USA, India, Brazil and Chile. We continue to work tirelessly to protect the planet, and thank you for your support.
It is important that we capture plastic before it reaches the oceans, foster sustainable practices and solutions, and use less plastic.
